On November 29, 2011, Native Americans Eileen Quintana and Natalie
Billie representing the Navajo and Ute tribes, came to Art City
Elementary School, Springville, to teach the fourth and fifth grade
students about Utah Native American culture.  They showed the students
artifacts such as cradle boards, drums, pottery, and rugs.  Eileen and
Natalie had volunteers come up and try on traditional Native American
dance costumes.  The boy's costume had many yellow and red feathers

The 2nd grade had an opportunity to go to the Scera Shell theatre to see a children's play of "How I Became a Pirate."  The teachers wanted to provide the students an opportunity to see a live musical production.  After the show the entire second grade had the chance to go on stage, meet the cast and take pictures with them.  Several members of the cast have performed with Miss Shoni Winkel and were more than happy to stay and give their time to the students.  The Second grade had read the book “How I Became a Pirate” by Melinda Long and illustrated by David Shannon, &nb

Art City Elementary Fifth-grade students held their annual wax museum on Friday November 19, 2011.  Fifth-grade students dressed up as famous and important people (characters) in America’s history.  Some of the characters from history that were seen included,  Amelia Earhart, Dave Thomas, Sacagawea, Betsy Ross, Thomas Edison, Albert Einstein, Florence Joyner, Katharine Hepburn, Grace Kelly, Eleanor Roosevelt, just to name a few.  The rest of the students in the school, as well as family, walked through the museum, asking questions and learning about these famous people.

Second-grade students at Art City Elementary, in Springville, on Friday, November 18, 2011, celebrated Thanksgiving by girls wearing dresses and boys wearing white shirts, long socks and they tucked their pant legs into their socks.  In the class room the desks were pushed together like long banquet tables.  The students had the opportunity to make aprons, hats, satchels, necklaces, and buckles for the boy’s shoes.  The students then ate in their classrooms with pilgrims, Indians, parents and Teacher.

Thursday and Friday, November 17 and 18, 2011, the Kindergarten, at Art City Elementary school, in Springville, were dressed as Pilgrims and Indians in remembrance of the first Thanksgiving.  The students had opportunities to be a pilgrim and make butter for bread, washed clothes on a wash board, sewed on a button to make a pocket and played old fashioned games, the next day they were Indians they popped popcorn, ground corn, made a pot with clay, read stories in a teepee, made “beaded” necklaces using pasta, banged on drums and danced around the teepee.   The smile on their

Art City Elementary School, in Springville, loves their Veterans.  Students were asked to invite family members that are currently serving or have served in our United States Military, they stood and introduced themselves and mentioned which armed force and which war they served, we had World War II, Korean, Vietnam, Desert Storm, Iraq, and various other positions.  The Brigham Young University ROTC color guard performed the flag ceremony in their full dress uniforms.
