Ms. Dorie Fisher’s fifth-grade class at Art City Elementary held their annual class Spelling Bee on Thursday, January 12, 2012.  Each year schools are given a certain list in which teachers can use in their
classroom Spelling Bee.  In the first round Ms. Fisher thought she might run out of words.  In each class the five winners move on to the School Spelling Bee.  Emmelia Cieslewicz and Jackie Durfey tied in the

Fancy Nancy, Thomas the Train, the Mad Hatter, Oh my!

“Fancy Nancy’s, Thing one and Thing two, Thomas the train, Jedi’s, and
the Mad Hatter” are a few of our favorite characters.  Art City’s
first-grade celebrated their favorite characters on Wednesday, January
18, 2012.  Some students dressed as their character some students just
carried their favorite books as they marched through classrooms and
the office to share who their favorite characters are.

Art City 6th-grade performs "A Christmas Carol"

Art City Sixth Grade Students in Mrs. Shana Huffaker and Mrs. Natalie Larsen's classes performed A Christmas Carol for Mrs. Alisa Morgan’s kindergarten class and  Mrs. Ashley Stoddard's 1st grade class on December 20, 2011.  This play, set in the 1800’s, is about a man named Ebenezer Scrooge who calls Christmas a humbug.  Christmas Eve night he is visited by his dead partner, Jacob Marley, and three ghosts.  In the end Scrooge becomes a heartwarming citizen for the rest of his life.  Mrs. Huffaker’s  and Mrs.

Student Council Helps with Food and Coat Drive

Art City Elementary School student council made posters for a food
drive and coat exchange which was sponsored by the Art City PTA.  The
posters they made were fabulous and very artistic.  The food went to
the Kiwanis club to help needy families in Springville.  The coats
donated were available for families at Art City Thursday and Friday
December 8th and 9th; the left over coats were taken to another
Springville school to be made available to families who needed coats.
 Thank you everyone who donated coats and food.

Second Annual Winter Chess Tournament

Art City Elementary in Springville hosted the Second Annual Chess
Tournament on Saturday, December 3, 2011. There were 22 schools
represented and 174 students attended. Thank you Mrs Lori Nielsen,
Principal; Mary Lynn Lewis, David Taylor, Brett Elzinga, the Student
Council and all parents who volunteered to help make this tournament
happen.

Utah Native American Culture at Art City Elementary School

On November 29, 2011, Native Americans Eileen Quintana and Natalie
Billie representing the Navajo and Ute tribes, came to Art City
Elementary School, Springville, to teach the fourth and fifth grade
students about Utah Native American culture.  They showed the students
artifacts such as cradle boards, drums, pottery, and rugs.  Eileen and
Natalie had volunteers come up and try on traditional Native American
dance costumes.  The boy's costume had many yellow and red feathers
