6th-Grade Hershey Track Meet

Thursday April 19th at the Springville High School, elementary schools gathered for the Hershey Track meet and wether rain or shine the Hershey Track Meet goes on, the day started a little sunny, but then the clouds moved in and all but the final 100 meter dash had to be finished, and the good sports they were the Sixth-grade students finished in the pouring rain.  Everyone had their lunches under trees and bleachers, as soon as they were done the sun came out and ended up being a gorgeous day.  This group of Sixth-grade, when they were in Third-grade had hail and as Sixth-graders

Scales and Tails visit Art City Elementary

Art City Elementary School had the opportunity to have Scales and Tails Utah come and share several of their “creatures”.  Caleb showed an alligator, tortoise, python, lizard and a scorpion, some students as well as teachers did not care for all of these creatures and would have to go out in the hall or to the library.  When Caleb put the scorpion in his mouth a few teachers and students were gagging.  Caleb emphasized many times that the way he became interested in reptiles and these other creatures is by reading books, when he wanted to know the different types of lizards h

Art City Fifth-grade Reviews the Year through Music and Dance.

 Art City's Elementary School Fifth-grade, shared "The Things we like" in an assembly on Thursday, April 5, 2012.  The things the fifth-grade like include, pizza, video games, music, and playing.  They portrayed these things by singing and dancing to songs that included:  "Things that I Like", "We Like Pizza", "All I Want To Do is Play", "Friend Like Me," "Video Games," "If I had a Million Dollars," "You Can't Stop the Beat".  The fifth-grade ended their program by  expressing "Remember to like whatever it is you're doing!  and sang "My Wish".  Than

Mara Kunzler is awarded the Crystal Apple Award

This year’s Crystal Apple Award goes to Mrs. Mara Kunzler second-grade teacher at Art City Elementary presented by Craig Harvey and is sponsored by Horace Mann insurance; teachers nominate their peers for the award.
Mara Sandoval Kunzler grew up in Denver, Colorado.  She is the youngest in her family with four older brothers.  Her girl-hood dream was to be a school teacher.  Her father taught school until she was in third-grade, then he became an administrator, so you could say she is following her father’s footsteps into education.

Art City Elementary School's Teacher of the Year

Ginger Dutson is a master teacher in every way. She is well known for going “above and beyond” what is expected in everything she does. She has held numerous leadership positions throughout her 14 year teaching career and serves as the Special Education Department Chair. Ginger holds a Bachelor of Science degree in elementary education and special education. She also holds a Master of Education degree and several endorsements including English language learners, reading and math. She has taught regular education, English language learners, resource and self-contained students.

It Pay's to Read

Art City Elementary School on Friday, February 3, 2012, held their semiannual “It Pays to Read” assembly, as students read they put their names in for drawings. Students’ names are drawn out to shoot or to receive books. The students shoot from the $1 line then choose teachers or our special guest, Cosmo to stand at the $2, $3, $4, and $5 line. The following students found out that it “pays” to read.

Sixth-Grade Sock-Hop to Celebrate Valentines Day

In February the Sixth-grade classes held an old fashioned "Sock-hop" to celebrate Valentines day by exploring what it was like in the Fifties.  There was Karaoke, picture booth, limbo, bubble-gum chewing contest, "50's" Trivia, hand jive and line dance, not to mention the root beer floats and lots of treats.

Moms, Muffins, and Math at Art City Elementary Third-Grade

Art City Elementary School, Springville—the Third grade classes had a “Moms, Muffins, and Math Morning,” on Friday March 9, 2012.  Moms came in and the students showed their moms how they could do math while enjoying a muffin. Moms were wowed by the activities and games their children were engaged in.  Thank you, moms for taking time out of your busy mornings to come and do math with us.
