First Grade Builds a Garden

Submitted by julia.murray on

Miss McKell Murdock's 1st grade class planted seeds and plants in the brand new Art City Garden Friday May 21st. This garden will be a resource to students at Art City to study many different content areas. This year students measured the area, designed the layout, learned about different plants, designed and created signs, and actually planted seeds and plants. The students look forward to the Fall when they can reap the rewards of their harvest. Thank you to Woodstuff, Diamond's Greenhouse and Eagle scout, Bradely Borget, for donating soil, plants and labor.

History is a Mystery for the 6th Grade Program

Submitted by julia.murray on

History is a Mystery was the theme for Art City's 6th grade, on Wednesday May 19th, as they sang and danced about music and themes from the past, ending with a very exciting and moving "Foot Loose" where the students really kicked up their heels and had a lot of fun. Good Luck 6th grade as you make your own history going on to 7th grade.

BYU Folk Dancers

Submitted by julia.murray on

The BYU Folk Dancers came to Art City Elementary Friday May 7th and shared their show "Folk dance: From Village to Stage." This show was a snippet of all the wonderful places, people and cultures that are out there in this big wide world. Music and dance is one of their favorite ways to explore and share culture traditions. One message they hope to share: "The world has its share of problems, lets try to strive to be part of the solution and hope for tomorrow. Together we can make a difference." (Quoted from a letter of appreciation by Delynne Peay, Artistic Director)

Fourth Grade Science Fair

Submitted by julia.murray on

Art City Elementary Fourth grade had a science fair on Friday April 16th. The young scientists discovered "germs" on keyboards, play ground equipment and doors. One student discovered that when you microwave soap it creates quite a foam that hardens when cooled. Some students tested theories of how to germinate seeds and some checked to see what plants liked to drink, if they prefered soda or water. "Is Celery dead or alive after it is cut?" "What produced electricity?" and "Will potatoes grow toward the light"? Thank you Fourth grade for sharing your knowledge with us.
