Art City "Excellence in Service" Award

Art City PTA awarded Julia Murray the “Excellence in Service” Award at their recent area meeting on March 17 for her many efforts to serve the school in so many ways. Julia is an amazing PTA supporter and Art City Elementary employee and is appreciated and loved by adults and students alike. She is involved on so many levels. Julia was hired as the PE instructor over five years ago but has added the following jobs and titles to her resume: Certified radKids Instructor, Journalism Club Instructor, P. R.

Art City Wins The District Chess Tournament

There were 170 students attend the Nebo School District Chess tournament on Saturday March 6th, 2010. Out of 170 students 27 were Art City Elementary students. Ten won trophies, which included: Kindergarten Jason Elzinga 1st place and Ellie Taylor 7th place; 1st grade Fuiva Moala 3rd place; 2nd Grade Ammon Elzinga 1st place, Monte Taylor 2nd place, and Patrick Bless 5th place; 5th Grade Jeffrey Taylor 1st place, Max Riche 6th place, and Stephen Elzinga 8th place; 6th Grade Pierce Wilson 5th place.

Help for Haiti Finale

Art City Elementary was involved in a fund raiser to "Help Haiti" the closing assembly was held on Tuesday March 2, 2010. The total at the assembly was $2,675. The students and parents of Art City really pooled their resources and the grand was $2,801.04. This money was sent off to the "Save the Children" foundation March 12th. Art City Elementary wants to thank everyone for their efforts especially: Brent and Jill Barson, Ginny Radford, and Kirstin Dolinar for all of their hard work with the assemblies and help they provided in this endeavor.
 

Crystal Apple Award

This years Crystal Apple Award goes to Miss Shoni Winkel, Second grade teacher at Art City Elementary.  Shoni grew up in Nyssa, Oregon where she graduated from Nyssa High School.  She attended Ricks College (now BYUI) then transferred to Brigham Young University in Provo where she studied Early Childhood Education.  Shoni Graduated in August 2000; she then started teaching 1/2 day Kindergarten at Sage Creek and 1/2 day Kindergarten at Art City.  She taught First Grade for six years and has taught Second Grade for three

Art City Spelling Bee

Art City Elementary held their annual Spelling Bee Friday February 19th. Forty-one students participated this year. Adam Davies took first place and will be advancing to the District Spelling Bee. Taylor Moeaki placed second and Garrett Carr placed third place. Thank you for everyone who participated.
 

Third Grade Program

Art City Elementary was entertained by the third grade, on February 18th, with their patriotic program. They sang songs for us to remember who we are and to be proud to be an American. Cub Scout Troop 124 had the privilege of doing the flag ceremony for the parents in the evening. Many wore their Scout uniforms to celebrate scouts as well. Thank you Teachers and Students for your hard work

Who Wants to be an Opera Star?

Art City Elementary wants to thank the Utah Opera Company for presenting "Who wants to be an Opera Star?" on Friday, March 6th. Many students said "I don't want to go", but after the assembly they were really excitted and said "we didn't know it was going to be a game show." Many students came away from the assembly singing and pretending to be opera singers and with a little more appreciation for the opera.
