There were 170 students attend the Nebo School District Chess tournament on Saturday March 6th, 2010. Out of 170 students 27 were Art City Elementary students. Ten won trophies, which included: Kindergarten Jason Elzinga 1st place and Ellie Taylor 7th place; 1st grade Fuiva Moala 3rd place; 2nd Grade Ammon Elzinga 1st place, Monte Taylor 2nd place, and Patrick Bless 5th place; 5th Grade Jeffrey Taylor 1st place, Max Riche 6th place, and Stephen Elzinga 8th place; 6th Grade Pierce Wilson 5th place. Art City as a school brought home the first place trophy.

We want to thank Rick Silva for running the computer, Chad Argyle, Dave Harlan, Mary Lynn Lewis, Linda Mortensen, Debbie May, Julia Murray, David Taylor, Bret Elzinga, Jay Talbot, Art City Student council, and all parents and coaches who helped bring everyone together for a great tournament.

In the tournament everyone plays 6 rounds Swiss, no elimination, a win gives you one point, a tie gives you a half point and a loss is zero points. At the end of the 6th round the computer takes the top four scores from each school and determines a winner.
