On December 16, 2010, Art City Elementary, Fourth grade students performed for the students at Art City. Miss Morgan wanted to spice things up by adding a Christmas rap about how the reindeer were jealous of Santa and thought they didn’t have enough attention so they put their feelings into a rap. The Fourth grade wore Sun glasses. They also went to the University Mall to perform for shoppers and parents.
On December 10, 2010, the Springville Jr. High school Choir came to Art City Elementary School. The Choir sang Christmas songs and their traditional song “Bum-bitti-bum.” Mrs. Walker, the choir director, said they were not going to sing it but that the students begged; they learned the song in a week and sounded terrific! The choir did a dance called “Crazy Santa” and the all time favorite “Christmas Round” “Chop-Chop, shovel-shovel”. It was very exciting to watch the Jr. High School choir sing. The students look forward to the Choir coming every year, thank you Mrs. Walker.
Art City Elementary in Springville hosted the First Annual Invitational School Chess Tournament on Saturday, December 11, 2010. There were 23 schools represented and 93 students attended. Thank you Mrs Lori Nielsen, Principal; Mary Lynn Lewis, David Taylor, Brett Elzinga, the Student Council and all parents who volunteered to help make this tournament happen.
Art City Elementary school, on December 14, 16, and 20, 2010, the Kindergarten through sixth Grade Sung around the Christmas Tree in the gym. It is a tradition that started 20 plus years ago, to sing various Christmas songs. Some of the favorites are “Rock around the Christmas Tree”, “Santa Claus is Coming to town”, and at the end we always sing the first verse of “Silent Night” then as we are leaving we continue to hum as we leave. It helps put us in the Holiday Spirit.

Famous people were seen at Art City Elementary School on Friday November 12, 2010. Fifth grade students dressed up for a Famous Person wax museum. The students chose a famous person from a list the teachers had compiled. Students then researched, wrote a paper, created a poster and dressed up as their famous person. All the students and teachers enjoyed seeing the Fifth Grade students dressed up.
The Veterans of parents, grandparents, spouses and siblings were honored at Art City Elementary School on Thursday, November 11, 2010. The Brigham Young University Air Force ROTC color guard and gunnery team presented the flag and performed. Dusty Kawaii spoke to the students sharing some of his war stories and experiences. A slide presentation set to patriotic songs showed the veterans we all honored. Thank you Sarah Ferrin and Jennifer Follette.
The Art City Second grade classes, November 19th, had an opportunity to eat their lunch Thanksgiving style, either as a pilgrim or an Indian, in their class rooms with teachers and parents. The students made jewelry, aprons or pouches depending on what they were dressed up as.
Pilgrims and Indians were seen in the Kindergarten classes at Art City Elementary. On November 18th and 19th the Kindergarten classes learned what it was like to be Pilgrims and Indians. They dressed up like a Pilgrim or an Indian, scrubbed a shirt on a wash board, made pockets by sewing on a button, ground corn, made beaded jewelry, popped corn, made shakers and butter. Mrs. Miner and Mrs. Morgan would like to thank all of the moms for you their help.
Dads and Donuts was a wonderful experience for the Third Grade classes, at Art City Elementary on November 12, to read and eat donuts with their dads. An opportunity for the dads of the Third Grade to come and see their students in the classroom environment, thank you Dads for supporting us.
