Oh the countries we see. . . Sixth grade students from Art City Elementary School had the opportunity to go to BYU to learn about countries. BYU had displayed many interesting facts, performed dances and played instruments. There were handouts at each display for the 6th grade students. It was a great experience and amazing. BYU did a really good job to make it fun for the students.

The Students at Art City Elementary celebrated the 100th day of school on Friday January 29th, 2010. The First Grade classes were visited by Zero Hero he delivered cookies to make the number 100. The students counted by 2s, 5s, and 25s to get to 100. First grade classes were reading 100 books. We saw classes making glasses in the shape of 100 and there were 100 treats, (100 goldfish crackers), birthday cakes with the number 100, 100 licks on a lollipop, 100 seconds with our eyes closed, and Mrs. Debbie Hadlock’s 4th grade class pretended to have $100 dollars to spend on books.

It Pays to Read!

It Pays to Read! Art City Elementary celebrated reading on Friday, January 22, 2010 with an assembly that pays the students for reading. We want to thank WW Clyde for their generous donation to make the “It Pays to Read” assembly possible. We had a special guest “Chief”, from the Ken Garff Road to Success Program, help the students as well. Each month students read and turn in a slip for every 100 minutes they read. If their name is drawn they are invited to choose four teachers to help shoot baskets.

Miss Winkel, Second grade teacher at Art City Elementary School, is the director; Kasey Dutson, Star Tutor at Art City Elementary, is the accompanist. The students shined as they sang and acted out some of the songs. Peppermint Stick was one of the favorites as they started out very calm and ended dancing very vigorously.

Art City Traditions
Ace reporters sharing thoughts on Traditions:

A Christmas tradition at Art City Elementarty is to sing around the tree, it started in the lobby, as the school has grown and expanded it moved to the gym. All of the classes in the school gather around a lit tree and sing fun Christmas songs, ending with Silent Night the students sing the first verse, then hum as they leave the gym.
