Art City Elementary School on Friday, January 21, 2011, held their semiannual “It Pays to Read” assembly, as students read they put their names in for drawings. Students’ names are drawn out to shoot or to receive books. The students shoot from the $1line then choose teachers or our special guest, Cosmo to stand at the $2, $3, $4, and $5 line. The following students found out that it “pays” to read.

First Grade class Donates Blankets to children in need

Submitted by julia.murray on Fri, 01/21/2011 - 10:13

On Dec. 17th Mrs. Robin Wheatley’s first grade class, at Art City Elementary School, tied 9 fleece blankets that were donated to the Juvenile Justice Center. They are given to kids in Slate Canyon, my students were just told they were given to kids who couldn't be with their parents during Christmas. All the fabric was donated and cut by parents. The kids had to learn a different way to tie the fleece but all were successful. They kept trying even if it was difficult because 'winners never quit and quitters never win'. On Monday January 10, 2011, at Art City Elementary, Mrs. Huffaker’s 6th grade class is hurrying in their classroom, preparing to enjoy what must be one of the greatest art projects the world has ever seen! Draping a tablecloth on top of their grouped desks, setting down huge cups full to the top with red, blue, and yellow frosting, positioning the first sugar wafer cookies in a triangle, these groups of students are going to use their art talents (and their sweet teeth) to make frosted cookie color wheels!

On December 16, 2010, Art City Elementary, Fourth grade students performed for the students at Art City. Miss Morgan wanted to spice things up by adding a Christmas rap about how the reindeer were jealous of Santa and thought they didn’t have enough attention so they put their feelings into a rap. The Fourth grade wore Sun glasses. They also went to the University Mall to perform for shoppers and parents.

Springville Jr. High visits Art City Elementary

On December 10, 2010, the Springville Jr. High school Choir came to Art City Elementary School. The Choir sang Christmas songs and their traditional song “Bum-bitti-bum.” Mrs. Walker, the choir director, said they were not going to sing it but that the students begged; they learned the song in a week and sounded terrific! The choir did a dance called “Crazy Santa” and the all time favorite “Christmas Round” “Chop-Chop, shovel-shovel”. It was very exciting to watch the Jr. High School choir sing. The students look forward to the Choir coming every year, thank you Mrs. Walker.
