Art City Elementary Students participate each year in the Arbor Day poster contest.   The winning poster from each grade level goes to the state Arbor Day Poster Contest.  Because of our participation our school received a certificate to receive a free tree to plant on our school grounds.  Honorable mentions go to (pictured back row) Kolby Carter, 4th grade; Savannah Simmons, 6th grade; Emily Clisbee, 3rd grade;  (front row) Lilly Holladay, 1st grade, Nicolas Crockston, 5th grade; and not pictured Sean O’Donnell and Matthew Sanders, Kindergarten.   Arbor Day is a nationally-celebrated observance that encourages tree planting and care.  Founded by J. Sterling Morton, who lived in a tree-less community in Nebraska, in 1872, it’s celebrated on the last Friday in April.
