Brain Awareness in Mr. Gibson's Class

Submitted by julia.murray on

On Tuesday, March 18th, Josh Carter, a parent of a student in Mr. Gibson's sixth-grade class, came and dissected a sheep's brain with Mr. Gibson's class in conjunction with National Brain Awareness Week at BYU. The class discussed many important functions of the brain while talking about the basic anatomy of the brain. Brigham Young University's anatomy department hosted this and various other activities throughout week (March 10-14) to raise awareness of just how incredible brains are.

Tulips Journey North

Submitted by julia.murray on
Spring has sprung, well not really but when Ms. Parker's class went outside yesterday they saw the beginnings of spring. Ms. Parker's class noticed that the Amaryllis tulips they had planted on October 3rd had started to emerge. Her class, along with the other 3rd grade classes, is participating in Journey North, a global study of wildlife migration and seasonal change with the help of Thanksgiving Point and Utah State University. It was like Christmas, the students were so excited! We are looking forward to watching the tulips fully emerge and bloom. We will go out periodically to make observations and record data. We then submit it to the main site. We ask that you remind your children not to play around the trees out in front of the school.
