If you are an Awesome Eagle you get to put your name on a board and when there is one whole row everyone on that row gets to have a pizza party. On April 20, 2015 the board finally had one row completly filled in; everyone on that row enjoyed pizza for lunch on Wednesday April 21st.
Have you ever wondered what goes into creating a year book? The pictures are taken, collected, sorted and placed on a template. Teachers watch for special moments that they want to remember after the school year. Then the Year Book Editor has to decide what this year should look like for years' to come. Students are invited to submit pictures of what they think the cover should look like; a jury of judges look at all of the pictures and decides what picture should be used.
Mrs. Bingham's fourth-grade class have been reading many of Brandon Mull's books and learning how to write. Mrs. Bingham was able to invite Mr. Mull to come on, March 17, 2015, to talk to the upper grades; sharing with students how he started writing and how the love of writing started to grow. After wards Mr. Mull posed for a picture with Mrs. Bingham's class. Later that night Brandon Mull was at Barnes and Noble for a book signing-- and many students were able to attend. Dalton Killpack enjoy's reading Mr. Mull's books and begged his mom to take him.
Art City Elementary students have been busy all year learning about different artists and art techniques. Each student chose their favorite piece of art and it was displayed in the Gym during the family night of the Book Fair in March. Students who visited the "Art Gallery" created chalk pictures, played games, and had a chance to have their faces painted. Thank you parents and PTA for all of your help in putting on such a magnificent gallery.
As you are walking the halls at Art City Elementary School you were sure to see many students wearing as much green as possible and as you walked into the Kindergarten where a "Leprechaun" visited on St. Patrick's Day you knew that the students like "St. Patrick's Day"
Do you have a child who is Five or going to be Five by September 1, 2015? Registration for next year's Kindergarten will be held on: Wednesday, March 18, 2015. Your child should be Five years old before September 1, 2015, in order to enroll in Kindergarten. You will need to bring with you the following items: A Record of immunizations, his or her Birth Certificate, and Proof of Residency. If you miss Kindergarten enrollment, feel free to contact the school to find out what they would like you to do.
Come join us "Under the Sea," Art City Elementary Book fair will be from March 16-March 19th; Book fair hours are daily 8:20 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Monday night come see the Great Artist Art gallary, participate in some games and door prizes. The Book Fair will stay open on Thursday March 19th during SEP's until 8 p.m.
Great Artist Art Gallery. This event will serve as the family night activity held in conjunction with the book fair and will be a culminating experience associated with the Great Artist Program that has been sponsored by the PTA. Every student in the school will have artwork on display and there will be some additional activities during the evening for guests to participate in. Please plan to join us Monday, March 16th. The gallery will be open to all the families of the students and faculty from 5:00-6:30 PM.
Mrs. Morgan's Kindergarten class had the opportunity to draw and color a self portrait. Mrs. Morgan said, "I use it mostly to reinforce how even though we all have two eyes, a nose, a mouth, two ears, etc. no one looks just like us—we are all unique. One of our social studies standards is to recognize differences and have respect for each individual. We used mirrors to look at the colors and shapes of our features. I taught them how to use shapes to form their faces and shoulders. Then we used oil pastels to color our portraits.
