Art City Elementary Reflections 2016

There were many participants in this year's Reflections and at this time we would like to announce the winners in each category. Awards of Excellence:  Katie Durfey, Aruelia Olsen, Joseph Rasmussen, Mille Claybaugh, Kelsie Nielson, and Morgan Nielson.  Awards of Merit:  Caroline Penrod, Camryn Depew, Levi Fox, Celeste Jenkins, Skylar Marshall, Lili Kew, and Camrie Snapp.  Honorable Mention:  Molly Jessop, Levi Olsen, and Anders Rasmussen.

Student Council Learn How to Be Leaders

Attributions: 

The Student Council members took a day to charge up their powers and and learn how to dedicate their time to serve.  With the Counselor Mrs. Kober, to light the way, they converged on BYU for an inspiring day on leadership.  They returned to Art City Elementary on a quest to show the student body how to unite so all students learn to serve and be kind to others.

Write and Send Letters to Santa

Attributions: 

Maceys department store is sponsoring "Letters to Santa". For every letter written, Maceys will donate one dollar to the Make-a-wish foundation.  Art City Elementary school has a goal to have 500 letters written before December 8th.  So let's get writing!! 

November Watch Dogs

Attributions: 

Art City Elementary School has some awesome Dads who came into the school during November.  Thank you Dads for wanting to spend time in our school, helping in the classrooms and help keep the playground tidy. 

Thanksgiving Activities in the Kindergarten

Attributions: 

The two days before Thanksgiving break the Kindergarten had the opportunity to experience what it is like to be either a Pilgrim or an Indian.  Students ground corn, pounded on drums, made popcorn, washed clothes on a wash board, made necklaces out of colored noodles, learned how to sew on a button, and made butter.  Thank you Moms and sixth-grade students for helping in the classrooms. 

Art City Elementary Kindergarten is Taken Over by Pilgrims and Indians

Attributions: 

Pilgrims and Indians were seen in the Kindergarten classes at Art City Elementary. On November 21st and 22nd the Kindergarten classes learned what it was like to be Pilgrims and Indians. They dressed up like a Pilgrim or an Indian, scrubbed a shirt on a wash board, made pockets by sewing on a button, ground corn, made beaded jewelry, popped corn, made shakers and butter.  Mrs. Morgan and Mrs. Cheever would like to thank all of the moms for your their help.

Art City Elementary Second-Grade Pilgrims

Second-grade students at Art City Elementary, in Springville, on Friday, November 18, 2016 celebrated Thanksgiving by girls wearing dresses and boys wearing white shirts, long socks that they tucked their pant legs into.  In the class room the desks were pushed together like long banquet tables.  The students had the opportunity to make aprons, hats, satchels, necklaces, and buckles for the boy’s shoes.  The students then ate in their classrooms with pilgrims, Indians, parents and Teacher.

The Art City First-Grade Gives Thanks From A to Z

Attributions: 

On Wednesday November 16, 2016, Art City Elementary first-grade classes performed for the school then that evening for their parents. Thanksgiving was the theme; from "A to Z" they gave reasons to be thankful and had songs to go along with the theme.  One of my favourites is "Gobble, Gobble, Strut".  Students also had the opportunity "dress-up" a turkey, which were on display in the Gym.

Veteran's Day at Art City Elementary School

Attributions: 

How did you celebrate your Veterans?  Art City Elementary School, in Springville, Utah, celebrated Veterans by coming together as a whole, participating in a flag ceremony followed by the whole school saying the Pledge of Allegiance and then singing the National Anthem.  Thank you Veterans for all you have done for our Country. Everyone at Art City wants to say "Thank You" to all those who are currently serving our Country reassuring that we enjoy the freedoms that we have here in the United States of America.
