Fifth Grade and the Springville Power Plant

Art City Elementary fifth graders were treated to a fun and informative field trip at the Springville Power Department.  They learned electrical saftey while they watched hotdogs, pickles and grapes get zapped. They were amazed at the size of the electrical generators that run our city and then were able to do some hands on electricity experiments.  The Springville Power Department treated the students to cookies and lemonade before they departed.  A big thanks to Springville City!

Art City Student Council Elections

Art City Elementary has a student council.  Each year, students in sixth grade have the opportunity to run for a spot on the council.  Student candidates are required to complete many tasks including five service hours, a 250 word essay, and obtain recommendations from teachers and parents.  The week of the election student candidates have the opportunity to create a poster that depicts what kind of council member they will be and to pass out stickers or flyers as they campaign.  The final day of the election the student candidates deliver a speech expressing why t

Nebo PEAK Award Winner, Karen Burton, Teacher, Art City Elementary

Karen Burton, Teacher, at Art City Elementary received a Nebo PEAK award on September 13, 2017.  Karen was nominated by Lisa Muirbrook.  “Karen absolutely loves her job. She is very experienced and knowledgeable about special education students and student development. She is willing to share her knowledge and expertise with all faculty members at any time. She has volunteered her time in other classrooms offering intervention ideas and techniques to teachers. She not only cares about her students but each student and staff member at Art City.

Hi my name is Miranda Ferris. I graduated from Lehi High School and college from Utah Valley University. This is my first year teaching and I'm so excited to be teaching kindergarten! I was born in Bedford, Texas; I grew up in Cincinnati, Ohio and Saratoga Springs, Utah, and currently live in Lehi. I am married to my high school sweetheart and we have been married for three amazing years. We have a one year old son named Oliver. He is a ball of energy and keeps us on our toes.

Hi my name is Heidi Heath.  I graduated from George W. Jenkins Senior High School in Lakeland, Florida and Brigham Young University in Orem. This is my sixth year teaching. I am so excited to be teaching second grade.   I am married and living in Provo.  I was born and raised  in Florida.  I am the oldest child in my family.  I have one younger sister who lives in New Mexico. My parents still live in Florida in the city I grew up in. I was married in January 2015.

Second Grade Learns the Life Cycle of a Butterfly

Art City Elementary second grade classes are beginning their life cycle unit of the butterfly.  The caterpillers were delivered on Friday, September 8th.  The students are excitted to see the transformation they will go through over the next few weeks.  Friday they painted buterflies and later they will make a butterfly life-cycle diagram.

Hi my name is Hannah Beus.  I graduated from Jacobs High School in Illinois and Brigham Young University.  This is my first year teaching. I am so excited to be teaching third-grade!!  I was born in Pennsylvania. I grew up in Colorado, Japan, and Illinois (Chicago area).  I live in Provo. My family now lives in Houston. In other words, I miss Chicago deep dish.  My parents are basically Chip and Joanna Gaines minus the farm and plus a few kids. I am the oldest of six children, with one married sister and four brothers. I'm single.

Hi my name is Marisa Channell.  I graduated from Mountain View High School in Orem and Brigham Young University-Idaho.  This is my seventh year teaching. I am so excited to be teaching first grade.  I was born in Provo, Utah.  I grew up in Orem, Utah.  I now live in Orem.  I am the second in my family.  I am single.  My mom worked for 30 years in the district as a speech therapist.  My dad worked at Brigham Young University for 30 years as a professor in speech and language pathology.

Hi my name is Emily Jayme.  I graduated from Sugar-Salem High School in Sugar City, Idaho, Ricks College and Brigham Young University.  This is my fourth year teaching. I am so excited to be teaching sixth grade.  I was born in Rexburg, Idaho and I grew up in Sugar City, Idaho.  I now live in Springville, Utah.  I am the eighth in my family. I am married.  To tell you a little about my family. I am married and have three daughters. My oldest two daughters are married with their own families. My youngest is in sixth grade.

Hi my name is Amber Park.  I graduated high school from Logan High School and attended College at Utah State University.  This is my second year as a  technician in Nebo School District. I am so excited to be the Skill Building Coach at Art City.  I was born in Colorado Springs, Colorado. I grew up in Arizona, England, Texas, New Mexico, and Utah. (My dad was in the Air Force)  I now live in Springville, Utah.  I am the fifth of six children in my family. I am married and have four children (three boys and one girl).
