Watch D.O.G.S. At Art City Elementary School

Submitted by julia.murray on

We have just completed our first month, of the 2016-17 School year, having Watch D.O.G.S. (Dads of Great Students) at Art City Elementary School.  Thank you Dads for coming to the school to be a positive Fatherly influence.   Having Watch D.O.G.S. in our school helps in the following ways:  1) To provide positive male role models for the students, demonstrating by their presence that education is important.  2) To provide extra sets of eyes and ears to enhance school security and reduce bullying.  Watch D.O.G.S. are fathers, grandfathers, uncles, and other father-figures who volunteer for at least one day each year at Art City Elementary School.   The program is overseen by a “Top Dog”  volunteer (Amber Park) who partners with Mrs. Muirbrook, the principal, to coordinate scheduling and identify opportunities for Watch D.O.G.S. to provide assistance at the school. Watch DOG dads and volunteers perform a variety of tasks during their volunteer day including monitoring the school entrance, assisting with unloading and loading of buses and cars, monitoring the lunch room, or helping in the classroom with a teacher’s guidance by working with small groups of students on homework, flashcards, or spelling.

If you would like to sign up to be a WatchDOG, please email Amber Park at amber.park@nebo.edu to find a date to sign up.
