Self Portraits in Mrs. Morgan's Kindergarten ClassPublished by julia.murray on Sat, 02/22/2014 - 10:56
Mrs. Morgan's Kindergarten class had the opportunity to draw and color a self portrait. Mrs. Morgan said, "I use it mostly to reinforce how even though we all have two eyes, a nose, a mouth, two ears, etc. no one looks just like us—we are all unique. One of our social studies standards is to recognize differences and have respect for each individual. We used mirrors to look at the colors and shapes of our features. I taught them how to use shapes to form their faces and shoulders. Then we used oil pastels to color our portraits. We also used this poem:
There are millions of people all over the place,
But nobody else with exactly my face.
It is fun to walk through the halls of Art City and see all the different ways the students express themselves.
