Fourth-Grade Learns about the Water Cycle

Art City Elementary Fourth-grade had the opportunity to learn about the Water cycle and some of the animals that live here in Utah from the Living Planet Aquarium Outreach Program.

The Living Planet Aquarium offers two exciting outreach programs that travel out to the schools. They currently offer the Rainforest Van Program free to 2nd grade public/charter Utah students and the Utah Waters Van Programs free to 4th grade public/charter Utah students. The outreach programs correlate with the Utah State Core Curriculum by grade level. This integrated, purpose-driven approach provides for a rich and interesting educational opportunity for students.   Inquire about an outreach program, by contacting the education department at (801)355-FISH (3474) ext. 210 or email outreach [at] thelivingplanet.com (outreach[at]thelivingplanet[dot]com).

The Utah Waters Van is an educational outreach program offered by The Living Planet Aquarium to 4th grade students throughout Utah. The content of our presentations is specifically designed to correlate with the Utah State Office of Education’s Science Core Curriculum. Presenters guide students as they learn about the water cycle, wetland ecosystems, and water conservation using demonstrations, experiments, and live animals.  There are two options for their Utah Waters Van visit:   Wonders of the Water Cycle and Investigating Utah’s Wetlands.

Art City's Fourth-Grade enjoyed learning about the Wonders of the Water Cycle.  They learned, by watching a real working model that demonstrates the water cycle and learned a song that would help them remember the cycle. They experienced a student-centered experiment showing how air pressure and temperature impact condensation.

Students were excited to see the different animals that live here in Utah; two of the animals included a Red Spotted Toad and as the King Snake was pulled out students turned to see that Miss Grant was no longer sitting in the classroom.  Students had the opportunity, if they wanted to, to touch the snake.

Since their start in 2002, the Utah Waters Van has reached over 340,000 students in all 42 school districts!  Thank you Living Aquarium for sharing the Utah Waters Van with Art City Elementary and other students across the state.
